Would you like to cycle and walk more? What is stopping you from doing that right now?
We want to hear from you about cycling, wheeling and walking in the area.
As part of our commitment to support communities, improve wellbeing and fight climate change, we are developing a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP).
How to have your say on our new plan...
Come along to a consultation event:
Monday 23 September
-
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Tavistock Town Hall
-
2 p.m. to 5 p.m. - Ockment Centre in Okehampton, Bellever Room
Have your say online until 11 October 2024.
We have launched our wildlife warden scheme to help preserve West Devon's biodiversity.
Our new wildlife warden co-ordinator will train and lead volunteer wildlife wardens on practical tasks and conservation efforts.
Practical work will be carried out that benefits wildlife, improves habitats and monitors the state of the Borough’s ecology as it stands.
We want the scheme to bring people together to create opportunities to protect, aid and increase wildlife in each of West Devon’s parishes.
Are you interested in becoming a Wildlife Warden?
Get in touch with our co-ordinator Emma, who will give you more information on the scheme and how you can get involved.
We're required to review our gambling policy, known as the ‘Statement of Principles’, every three years. The policy sets out the principles West Devon Borough Council will apply under the Gambling Act 2005 when dealing with applications, enforcing legislation and making decisions.
The main proposed changes include new sections on ‘safer gambling and social responsibility’ and ‘gaming in alcohol licensed premises’, as well as further information on our expectations in relation to gaming machines and small society lotteries.
We would welcome any comments you wish to make about the draft policy during our public consultation.
Click here to visit our consultation page.
Any responses to the consultation must be received by Sunday 13 October.
As part of a review of polling districts and polling stations, we want to know what you think about our current polling stations.
- Do you think your local polling station is convenient?
- Can you get to it easily walking, by car or public transport?
- Can you suggest a better location?
- Is there somewhere more accessible for those with disabilities?
Let us know your ideas and thoughts by 5 p.m. Wednesday 16 October 2024.

Mobile Localities Officer West Devon
Our Mobile Locality Officers work in the heart of our communities, carrying out a wide range of varied tasks on behalf of specialist service areas. From patrolling rural areas for fly tipping to collecting water quality samples, flexibility and adaptability are key and no two days are ever the same.
As well as being the eyes and ears on the ground, our mobile officers are highly visible to our residents and truly are the operational face of the Council.
Could this be you?
Apply online before Monday 23 September 2024.
