Gambling consultation

We're required to review our gambling policy, known as the ‘Statement of Principles’, every three years. The policy sets out the principles West Devon Borough Council will apply under the Gambling Act 2005 when dealing with applications, enforcing legislation and making decisions.

The main proposed changes include new sections on ‘safer gambling and social responsibility’ and ‘gaming in alcohol licensed premises’, as well as further information on our expectations in relation to gaming machines and small society lotteries.

We would welcome any comments you wish to make about the draft policy during our public consultation.

Click here to visit our consultation page.

Any responses to the consultation must be received by Sunday 13 October.

The men's toilets in Bedford Car Park in Tavistock (also known as the Wharf toilets) are closed after yet another arson attack on 22 August. They'll remain closed until 12 September, after our specialist cleaners try to sort out the damage.

This sort of damage is costing everyone.

Anyone with information can contact Devon and Cornwall Police by calling 101 or via their website quoting reference 50240212942.

Diversifying Farming Event

We've joined together with Devon County Council to hold an event on farm diversification. So if you're a farmer in the borough and free next week, take a look.

Join the team at Hayes Meadow Organic's new production facility in Exbourne. Their innovative approach repurposes animal by-products to produce a wide array of products, using beef tallow.

The agenda includes a variety of engaging speakers. Agricultural consultant, Luppo Diepenbroek will introduce Hayes Meadow Organic and share how he supported farmer Graham Macklin to diversify the business.

Representatives from the University of Plymouth will present the latest research, referencing recent case studies. Andy Gray from M C Kelly will discuss mobile abattoirs and the use of ‘fifth quarter’ products. The day will also feature an opportunity to tour the facility, ask questions to the panel and to enjoy a delicious lunch!

The event takes place on Thursday 12 September from noon to 4 p.m. at Hayes Meadow Organic, Exbourne, EX20 3QU.
