Meet our West Devon Mayor Award winners for 2024!

Our outgoing Mayor for 2023/2024 has given thanks to the West Devon heroes who are making outstanding contributions to their local communities.

Our winners are:

  • Long Service Award - Janet and David Kendall
  • Green Award - Matt Parkins
  • Over 18's Award - Tania Kovalchuk
  • Organisation -Bridestowe Cricket Club, North Tawton Rugby Club, Okehampton Rugby Club
  • Under 18 - Lucy Mott

Well done Tavistock Primary School!

Congratulations to Tavistock Primary and Nursery School who have won the final of the Borough's Mayor’s Young Person Green Award 2023/2024. 

The school has been recognised for their work in raising awareness of Dartmoor’s endangered ponies.

This month, the outgoing mayor for 2023/024, Cllr Lynn Daniel presented the school with their award.

Important general election information

As election day rapidly approaches for the general election there are key dates for you to put into your calendar if you want to make sure you are able to vote in the way you want to.

First and foremost, are you registered to vote? The election takes place on Thursday 4 July so these important dates are coming up quickly.

The key dates you need are:

It only takes five minutes. You’ll be asked for your National Insurance number (but you can still register if you do not have one).


Useful if you know that you won’t be able to get to the polling station on polling day, you can vote by post.


You can ask someone you trust to cast your vote on your behalf if you're unavailable to vote. This is called a proxy vote and the person casting your vote is called your proxy.

  • Essential to vote in any election
  • Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate - Deadline for applications is before 5 p.m. on Wednesday 26 June
  • apply for free voter ID

If you don't have any accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate.


The 15 year limit on voting rights for has now been removed. The registration period has been extended to three years. This means that overseas voters will only need to register to vote every three years.

  • 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Thursday 4 July [Remember your photo ID]

Do you have a keen interest and natural flair for working with systems? Are you good at interpreting data? 

If yes, our Systems and Support Officer role may just be for you! 

We are looking for a motivated person to provide day to day support to our  Revenues and Benefits Support team. 

You will be supporting the implementation of new e-technologies, as well as  responsible for the testing, checking and evaluation of system upgrades, new software releases and new processes.
