Cryptosporidium update

Our residents and businesses in the Hillhead area and Alston areas will still be aware from South West Water (SWW) updates that the boil notice is still in place.

Over the past week, SWW have cleaned the reservoirs and flushed the network several times in an attempt to remove the remaining traces of Cryptosporidium. Their water quality samples are showing progress, however, further intense work is needed to fully remove any contamination.

Bottled water is still being delivered to homes under the boil water notice. If you miss your delivery, you can still collect bottled water from the usual locations between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

The SWW community van will also be at the following locations over the weekend:

  • Kingswear Banjo, TQ6 0SG - 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday & Sunday
  • Raddicombe Drive, Hillhead, TQ5 0EX - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Are you registered to vote?

As election day rapidly approaches for the general election there are key dates for you to put into your calendar if you want to make sure you are able to vote in the way you want to.

First and foremost, are you registered to vote? The election takes place on Thursday 4 July so these important dates are coming up quickly.

The key dates you need are:

It only takes five minutes. You’ll be asked for your National Insurance number (but you can still register if you do not have one).


Useful if you know that you won’t be able to get to the polling station on polling day, you can vote by post.


You can ask someone you trust to cast your vote on your behalf if you're unavailable to vote. This is called a proxy vote and the person casting your vote is called your proxy.


  • Photo ID is essential to vote in any election.
  • If you don't have any photo ID
  • Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate - Deadline for applications is before 5 p.m. on Wednesday 26 June

If you don't have any accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate.


The 15 year limit on voting rights for has now been removed. The registration period has been extended to three years. This means that overseas voters will only need to register to vote every three years.

Volunteer with Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice


Citizens Advice South Hams is appealing for volunteers to expand their work helping people cope with the cost-of-living and housing crises in the District. Last year, the charity, which receives a grant from South Hams District Council, helped more than 6,000 people.

The Citizens Advice service is independent, free and confidential and deals in a wide range of issues, including benefits claims, debt, energy bills, housing, consumer problems, employment and discrimination and is open to everyone in the community.

There are a wide range of volunteer roles, including advisers, administration and reception and no previous experience is required as full training and supervision is provided. In a recent survey,94% of Citizens Advice volunteers in Devon said volunteering had a positive impact on their wellbeing.

We are looking for a motivated person to provide day to day support to our  Revenues and Benefits Support team.
