Your metal matters - did you know?

Metalmatters

Did you know that recycled drinks cans could be back on shop shelves in just six weeks?

Did you know that recycling two cans can save enough energy to power a computer for 12 hours?

Did you know that as well as tins and cans, you can recycle aluminium foil, foil takeaway trays and biscuit and chocolate tins in your white sack?

Metal is an amazing material because it’s endlessly recyclable - every last bit can be turned into something else. It’s a cycle that can go on forever.

Every piece of metal packaging you recycle will be used again and again for years to come. Every time it’s recycled we save energy, cut emissions and reduce landfill areas and costs.

If you'd like to know a bit more about what you can put in your white sack, or find out

You can find out more on our website.

Choose what you'll use

This week is Food Waste Action Week - and reducing our food waste would be a huge plus for the planet.

This year's campaign is encouraging you to 'Choose What You’ll Use' by buying your fruit and vegetables loose instead of packaged. Research from Love Food Hate Waste has shown that we could reduce food waste by 60,000 tonnes just by buying loose fruit and veg.

Every stage in the journey of our food draws resources from our planet and produces greenhouse gas emissions.

If we can make sure only the food we are going to eat reaches our homes, and no good food ends up in the bin, we could save the emissions created producing that food from ever needing to be created in the first place.

Ensuring you use up all of the food you buy and let none of it go to waste is a key way to reduce your carbon footprint and help tackle climate change.
