Reducing marine pollution

boat project group photo

With a careful eye on climate change, we are looking at ways we can reduce marine pollution.

Over the next two weeks, Creekside Boatyard in Dartmouth will dismantle a sailing boat that has reached the end of its useful life and with our support, look at ways to fully recycle all parts of the boat.

The findings from the two-week study will help support local harbour authorities and coastal communities who struggle to dispose of abandoned vessels in their harbours. marinas and boatyards.

Choose what you'll use

This week is Food Waste Action Week - and reducing our food waste would be a huge plus for the planet.

This year's campaign is encouraging you to 'Choose What You’ll Use' by buying your fruit and vegetables loose instead of packaged. Research from Love Food Hate Waste has shown that we could reduce food waste by 60,000 tonnes just by buying loose fruit and veg.

Every stage in the journey of our food draws resources from our planet and produces greenhouse gas emissions.

If we can make sure only the food we are going to eat reaches our homes, and no good food ends up in the bin, we could save the emissions created producing that food from ever needing to be created in the first place.

Ensuring you use up all of the food you buy and let none of it go to waste is a key way to reduce your carbon footprint and help tackle climate change.

Bigbury car park update

parking

From Monday, Bigbury on Sea car park and toilets, leased by us since 1997, will change hands over to a new operator, RCP Parking Ltd.

You won't see any interruptions in service and RCP are an experienced, family run business who have been operating car parks since 1994.

We have to run our services sensibly, in a way which is cost effective. We use public funds for these services and that is why we have reached this decision.
