New housing support for communities

aerial view

We are helping our communities deliver more homes for the people who need it most.

Our South Hams Housing Offer provides practical and financial help so that communities can deliver much needed homes in their local area.

Whether its a group just starting out who need help with setting up a community housing organisation or exploring sites, or an established group who need support with the next steps, the South Hams Housing Offer is there to help.

Young people shaping their town's future

Along with students at Ivybridge Community College, we have launched a survey for 16–24-year olds to help write the next chapter for Ivybridge.

We are asking young people what they feel about their town, how they spend their time, career aspirations and the opportunities they have locally.

Young people can take part in the survey online until Thursday 29 February.

Changes to the way we vote

voting changes

It’s the Police and Crime Commission elections on Thursday 2 May, are you ready to vote?

If you are voting on 2 May or in any upcoming elections, there are some new rules for postal votes and proxy so take a look below at what's new...

  • There are changes to how you vote online by post or by proxy

  • Your identity will be checked as part of the application process. Both online and paper applications will need ID verification (except for emergency proxy votes)
  • There is now a limit to the amount of people you can be proxy for. You  can act as a proxy for two people.
  • If you vote on behalf of UK voters who live overseas, you can act as a proxy for up to four people (but only two of those can live in the UK)
  • More detailed information will be coming in the next few weeks giving more information on each of these different changes.

Dartmouth Lower Ferry maintenance

ferry boat

Due to extended maintenance works, the Dartmouth Lower Ferry will continue to operate a single service this February. Its usual double ferry service will now restart on Tuesday 27 February.

It had been expected that our double ferry service would be back up and running from 12 February, however due to more works needed on the vessel hull and the linked safety checks, this has now been delayed. We also need to make sure we have the correct tides to bring the ferry back into service.
