Latest News from South Hams District Council

Do you put your recycling out on the kerbside in a blue or clear sack?

From next week, please start using your recycling boxes and containers as you will not be able to use the blue/clear sacks.

The upcoming changes means that everyone will be on the same service, using kerbside boxes, a white reusable sack and food waste caddy to present their recycling each week. Everyone will need to sort their waste into the correct containers from Monday.

We currently deliver three different types of recycling collections to our residents. We’re now making sure everyone can recycle the exact same materials, including glass and food waste.

This is also important to us, as it will help us combat climate change, reduce waste and pollution.

You should have received a letter explaining the changes and what material goes in each container.

We also have an online guide about what goes in each container - click here to find out more.

If you are already using your containers, you might have a change to your recycling and black bin collection day. The entire district will also receive a food waste collection now, which will be new for some people.

Your letter will explain if your collection day has changed. From Saturday 18 November, you can also check possible changes to your collection day online at waste.southhams.gov.uk

Please make sure that when you put out cardboard for kerbside collection that it fits inside of your recycling box. We can’t currently collect any cardboard outside of the box.

We really appreciate your support as we introduce these changes to your recycling and food waste collection service. Your co-operation will help us deliver a smooth and seamless service for you.
