Keeping Our Residents Safe

Since the arrival of Storm Ciaran, we have been out and about doing all we can to make sure our residents are safe, and where possible, that our day to day services continue.

Fallen trees in road

Over the past two days we have been dealing with fallen trees and damage to properties across the District.

Our Waste and Recycling, Grounds Maintenance and Locality teams have been working with communities and partners to help clear the damage and make sure residents are looked after.

Despite the weather, our Waste and Recycling teams have been working hard so that normal collections continue. They have been out today collecting in those areas they were unable to reach yesterday. If they have been unable to get to you, yet they aim to collect today, so please leave your bins out.

Dartmouth Lower Ferry - cheerful crew member bundled up against the weather

A very soaked but smiling Dartmouth Lower Ferry Team continued to operate the ferry service for as long as it was safe during Storm Ciaran so that residents could get to the places they needed to where they live and work.

In Salcombe, the Harbour team worked long hours to make sure that all vessels were safe and secure as much as they possibly could before the storm hit and  they did their usual very good job under trying conditions.

Well done to all our resilient staff for working hard to keep services running over the past few days.

Please remember! You can keep up-to-date on weather related news on our social media channels, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Nextdoor. Here you will find live updates and advice from both us and our all of our partners, like the Met Office, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Environment Agency, Police and Fire services.

What Is Important to You?

south hams

We know there is a lot to do about better housing, more jobs, community wellbeing and protecting our natural environment. If these are things important to you then please have your say on our draft Corporate Strategy.

We want to hear your thoughts about what you think is important for the South Hams.

Watch a recent video from Leader of the Council, Cllr Julian Brazil on why your views are so important in helping shape the future of your community.

Be part of the conversation and let's talk online here until Monday 30 November.

Supporting Our Towns To Thrive

growth

Your local town is special. It's where you meet friends and family for drinks and food. Where you shop or work and have your community at its heart, so it's important that it continues to thrive and grow.

That's why we are working with each local town to help communities get what they need from the places where they live and work.

We want to help the local economy to grow, attract new businesses to the area and meet the needs of our residents now and in the future.

Learn more here about how we are working with communities to enhance the unique characters of our towns and help write the next chapter.

Let's Talk About Dogs

labrador

Dogs are a person's best friend... perhaps yes, or perhaps no!

Whatever your feelings about dogs, they are everywhere around and their behaviour impacts all of us. Where they go, if their owners pick up their poop, whether or not they are kept under control or on a lead.

Do you want them on a beach or not. If so, when and for how long? These are the types of things we are asking in our survey and this is your chance to have your say on the control of dogs within the District.

You have until Tuesday 14 November to let us know and you can find out more here

So, what are you waiting for? Let's talk about it online here

Have Your Say on Council Tax Reduction

As the Cost of Living Crisis continues, we plan to help residents most in need to pay their Council Tax and we'd really like to know what you think about our ideas.

Our Council Tax Reduction Scheme is reviewed every year so let us know what you think about two proposed changes for 2024-2025.
