Who is your young green hero?

Doing what we can to reduce carbon and to be 'greener' is a top priority for our Council, as it it for most of our residents. With children being front and centre in doing their bit for the environment within our communities, let's show them our appreciation and reward them for their brilliant efforts.

So with this in mind, do you know a young person, primary school class or youth group who are doing great things for the environment?

If so, enter them now for a Mayor’s Young Person Green Award!

The Mayor of West Devon, Cllr Lyn Daniel, is on the lookout for young people (aged 4 to 11) who are making a real difference. Maybe it’s an eco-school project, tree planting, litter picking, improving recycling or raising funds for green projects. Whatever it may be, we want to hear about it!

Prizes include two fantastic books, '100 things to know about saving the planet' and, 'No one is Too Small to make a Difference' by Greta Thunberg.

Plus a certificate, personally presented by the Mayor.

The awards take place every two months, so please make your nominations for the next awards by Friday 29 September.

Support a good cause with SeaMoor Lotto

SeaMoor Lotto is a fun way to help good local causes that you care about. Since its launch, our Lotto has raised lots of money for local West Devon small charities.

You can choose exactly which good cause you would like your money to go to, and unlike larger lotteries, most of the cost of your ticket comes straight back into the community.

Tickets are £1 in the weekly draw with the chance of winning weekly cash prizes of up to £25,000. Enter before Saturday 30 September and you can also be in with a chance of winning a £1,500 Ikea voucher.

It really is a win-win: even if you don’t win a cash prize you can be happy knowing that you are making a real difference to good causes within the borough!

Do you know of a pub, community hall, garden, sports club or other treasured location in West Devon that would benefit from government funding? This is your chance to save local community assets that are at risk of being lost forever.

We are encouraging residents to use Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities funding to apply for the money available for this round of applications, which has doubled to £2 million. The amount organisations need to match fund has also reduced now from 50% to 20%.
