Last Saturday, we attended Tavistock Pride to celebrate diversity and show the Council's support for the LGBTQ+ community here in West Devon.

Our stand proved to be a success, where we spoke to residents about the services we provide and offered advice on how to access those services.

Free summer activities for school children

The school holidays can be a surprisingly stressful time, with the costs of childcare and food quickly mounting up.

Available from Devon County Council (DCC), we’re helping to promote an exciting range of activities which are available to children aged five to 16, who receive benefit-related free school meals, over the summer holidays.

The government-funded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme also offers healthy meals during the school holidays.

More than 60 different activity providers across Devon will be offering a great range of things to do, both indoors and outdoors.

Activities include sports, swimming, football, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, tennis, hockey, athletics, bowling, cross fit, gardening, yoga, crate stacking, and zipline.

This year, there are more places available for secondary school age ranges, with go-karting, climbing, trampolining, high ropes and surfing also included.

A full list of the activities on offer and how to apply are on the HAF website.
