A by-election for the ward of Tavistock North will be held next month after a Councillor stepped down from the role.
Due to personal circumstances, Terry Wheeler has resigned from his position as a new Borough councillor for the Tavistock North Ward. Therefore, a by-election needs to be called to decide Mr Wheeler’s replacement, and will be held on 22 June. Mr Wheeler was one of the three successful candidates in Tavistock North in the local elections held on 4 May.

We hope you've had a chance to enjoy some of the gorgeous sunny weather over the next few days? If you're like us, when it's hot you quite possibly head out to the water to cool down. So we've taken some top tips from our partner, the RNLI, to share with you about how to keep safe when you're out and about.
Whether swimming, paddling or playing in and around our rivers, lakes or venturing out to the coast, safety is the key for family and friends.
The RNLI's key safety advice for taking a dip is:
- Keep a close eye on your family in the water - don't allow your family to swim alone.
- If you fall into the water unexpectedly, FLOAT TO LIVE. Fight your instinct to thrash around, lean back, extend your arms and legs, and float.
- If in doubt, stay out - there is always another day to go for a swim.
- Take plenty of warm clothes for before and after your dip, along with a hot drink to help you warm up again when you come out of the water.
- Wearing a wetsuit will help increase your buoyancy and reduce the chances of suffering cold water shock.
- Acclimatise to the water temperature slowly - never jump straight in.
- Stay in your depth and know your limits.
- If you get into trouble, remember FLOAT to live by leaning back in the water, extending your arms and legs, and resisting the urge to thrash around to gain control of your breathing.
- Take a mobile phone in a waterproof pouch.
- Visit a lifeguarded beach and swim between the red and yellow flags.
- Keep a close eye on your family on the beach, especially younger children.
- Check the weather forecast, tide times and read local hazard signage to understand local risks.
- Be seen - wear a brightly coloured swim cap and consider using a tow float.
- If you or someone else is in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

Is climate change important to you? Yes? Then please take a few minutes to have your say on a regional strategy designed to make sure that Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly can make the necessary changes to cope with the worst effects of climate change.
So what does the strategy actually mean? The Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly (DCIoS) Climate Adaptation Strategy will help communities and organisations across the South West better understand the risks their area might face in the future, as climate change increasingly affects the UK.
It will also help them to adapt to these changes, meaning they can improve their preparation and resilience to make sure that communities like yours are kep safe from the risks of the changing climate.
You can now view the strategy online and take part in a public consultation until 30 June.
Please have your say and help your community's future.
