Last Chance to Get Free ID for Elections

voter id now required

With the days counting down until the Borough turns out to vote, it's your last chance to apply for a free voter ID document.

Everyone voting in the elections on 4 May will need to bring photo ID with them to vote. This could be your passport, driving licence or blue badge, but there are lots of documents that are accepted. Find out more about what photo ID is suitable on our website.

If you don't have photo ID you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate, which is a free voter ID document. Apply by 5 p.m. on Tuesday 25 April.

If you know someone who does not have access to a computer and needs extra support, they can contact our elections team on 01822 813604, to book an appointment to help complete their application for Voter ID.

Hosepipe Ban

A hosepipe ban is to be enforced in some parts of Devon from 25 April.

The South West Water region is still seeing the impact of last year’s exceptionally dry weather and reservoir levels are lower than normal for this time of year.

South West Water is acting now to protect water resources and the environment, to help rivers and reservoirs to recharge ahead of the summer months.

Find out more about the hosepipe ban here.

Emergency Alerts

Emergency Alerts

The Government's new Emergency Alerts system will be tested at 3. p.m. on Sunday, 23 April by sending a national test alarm to all smartphones that use 4G and 5G phone networks.

An emergency alert is a loud, siren-like sound with a message on your mobile phone and will sound, even if the mobile phone is set on silent. It will be used to alert you of danger nearby, such as bad weather and flooding.

The government is advising anyone with a secret phone that provides an opportunity to reach for help when needed, that it is possible to opt out of these alerts, details can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/alerts/how-alerts-work

If you know or care for someone who may become distressed during this alarm, please help them prepare in advance.
