West Devon COVID Alert is Medium

Local COVID alert levels: what you need to know for where you live, work or travel.

Please continue to follow the guidance for social distancing and washing hands to keep West Devon numbers low. We all need to continue to work together to keep each other safe and to protect our communities and our local health services.

The rules for us are currently:

• both indoors or outdoors you must keep to the rule of 6 - unless legally exempt
• businesses and retail can continue providing they keep to COVID guidelines
• Hospitality venues must ensure customers eat food and drink while seated, and must close between overnight from 10.00 p.m. until 5.00 a.m.
• If you are a business or venue selling take away food, you can continue after 10.00 p.m. as long as this is food is collected, delivered or via a drive-through
• tourist attractions are open with nightclubs remaining closed
• schools and universities continue to stay open
• places of worship remain open subject to social contact rules
• weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on numbers of attendees - 15 for wedding and 30 for funeral ceremonies and 15 for receptions or wakes
• exercise classes and organised sport can continue to take place outdoors, or indoors if the rule of six is followed.
• Care homes are open to visitors with additional precautions 

You must:

• wear a face covering in those areas where previously stated

Please continue to:

• follow social distancing rules
• work from home where you can 
• when travelling, plan ahead or avoid busy times and routes. Walk or cycle if you can.

Test and Trace Support Grant

If you are required by law to self-isolate because you have been in close contact with someone who has COVID- 19, and you are on a low income, you may be supported through a payment of £500, which would be administered by your local Council. You can find out more here.

Director of Public Health for Devon

Dr Virginia Pearson, Director of Public Health for Devon has today welcomed the continued reduction in student cases in Exeter but warns of the need for extra vigilance across the City and the rest of Devon as wider community cases rise. “The pattern in Exeter has shown a successful reduction in student cases with no sign of significant spread thanks to the swift actions of the University and other partners in working together to contain the situation. “But we must not be complacent,” she says. “We are now seeing more community cases in Exeter and across Devon, in line with the rise in the rest of the country. This is particularly in the working age population, and we expect cases to increase over the next few weeks. “These cases cannot be linked to students and the coronavirus appears to be passing between people outside of COVID-secure settings, which suggests that community spread is now occurring. “Obviously, we want to limit the impact on people in older age groups and on to those who are particularly vulnerable so the time to act is now.   “Everyone – and particularly those people of working age – must be extra vigilant about maintaining social distancing, handwashing, wearing face coverings and avoid social mixing if they can .”
