COVID-19 - Update

Coronavirus

Dear Towns and Parishes

We recognise that COBRA made some decision yesterday that may impact your most vulnerable residents.

We wanted to let you know that our approach remains the same and that as far as we can it is 'business as usual' but with extra consideration for the escalating situation and the emerging advice.

Our Incident Management Team is increasing its activities significantly as we prepare for the inevitable consequences of the Covid -19 outbreak.

Having attended the Devon and Cornwall Local Resilience Forum Strategic Command phone call on Tuesday, I’m pleased to say that we are doing everything that is required and or recommended. Having said that the situation is evolving every few hours.

Whilst the position remains that we are following government and PHE advice, our preparations are starting to impact day to day business and certainly the majority of the Extended Leadership Team and a number of other officers are now fully deployed on the incident and this in turn is impacting on their day job.

We have been working hard to identify and risk assess priority services and what actions we will take to mitigate the impact that the outbreak may have on the delivery of these services.

In terms of communication, we intend to send you these bulletins on a regular basis, or when the situation changes i.e. change to government advice. Follow our social media feeds for the latest government advice, which we are sharing from official sources.

We are aware that you may be getting enquires from some of your most vulnerable residents i.e. those have receive help and support to live in their own homes. These responsibilities remain that of Devon County Council and we will support them and follow their guidance.  However within the Incident Management Team we have created the following roles and assigned staff to them:

  • Volunteer Liaison
  • Town and Parish Council Support

We will be in touch again when we have more information about how these roles will work.

Regards, Steve Mullineaux
Deputy Chief Executive
