Free Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) workshop
The Sheppey Employment Forum, part of the Isle of Sheppey Forum, has organised a "DBS Overview Workshop" for the Island's employers and voluntary sector.
The free event will take place online at 3pm on Wednesday, 24 September.
Kelly Matthews, DBS Regional Outreach Adviser for the South East, will provide an overview of the role of the DBS, eligibility for DBS checks, as well as an organisation's duties and responsibilities in regard to making barring referrals.
The session is aimed at those who are involved in the recruitment and management of staff or volunteers, including those on work experience, and those who have safeguarding responsibilities. The session aims to raise awareness of DBS and increase confidence in accessing and using DBS checks as part of your recruitment and on-going employment decisions.
Baton of Hope - Relay Tour Sheppey

The UK’s largest suicide prevention initiative, Baton of Hope, will be coming to the Isle of Sheppey next month, along with support and advice.
Swale Borough Council have teamed up with the Medway & Swale Health and Care Partnership and a variety of local partners to host a baton pass event on 21 September ahead of a tour around Kent and Medway.
The events aim to help raise awareness of suicide prevention support, call out suicide stigma, and celebrate absent loved ones as well as those who have been able to find hope and stay with us.
Eight teams will join the Mayor of Swale in carrying the baton in a relay, leaving from EKC Secondary School at 1pm, moving along the seafront to the Shingle Bank and back.
The baton will arrive back at the school at around 2:30pm where a charity village will be available to offer people support.
The village, open from 1pm, will feature a variety of community stalls providing information and advice, along with refreshments from EKC’s Dementia Café, and entertainment.
Please share with your network and come out and show your support during the route itself to see the baton travel along the seafront and at the charity village.
