New kitchen facility for business hire opens in Kent
A new facility in Kent offers food entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes access to high-end equipment and professional grade kitchen facilities.
Located within The Yarrow in Broadstairs – a working hotel and training facility for students at EKC Broadstairs College – this unique space is the first of its kind in Kent.
To ensure the space offers exactly what Kent food businesses need, EKC Group has been working closely with Produced in Kent. This partnership has allowed the Group to gather important feedback on the project, such as from Rachael Pynenberg, who is the founder of pickles and preserves business, Miam Jars. She said:
“This is a real game-changer for our region. Until now, I’ve had to travel in and out of London to access anything like this. The EKC Innovation Kitchen has equipment big enough to halve my batch times, saving me hours and making production far more cost-effective. For a small business, time is money. Being able to produce at scale locally is a huge win, and not having to invest in all the kit myself is even better.”
With an investment of approximately £250,000, EKC Group has equipped the innovative space with advanced culinary technology, allowing users to streamline and optimise their production processes.

Area Committees Review
Swale Borough Council area committees were set up in September 2020 to “enhance the quality of life and of council services in the relevant area and to bring greater local insight to bear in council decision-making”.
Councillors are carrying out a review of the four area committees (Eastern, Sheppey, Sittingbourne and Western) to help shape them for the future and to improve public engagement.
They would like to hear your views and would be grateful if you would complete a survey about the area committees by 31 August 2025.
If you have any questions, please email policyteam@swale.gov.uk

Loneliness Project Survey
Swale Voluntary Alliance has successfully received funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to deliver a project to increase awareness, reduce stigma, interlink existing networks, and create new opportunities to reduce loneliness in the borough of Swale. The project will run until the end of March 2026.
As part of the initial data gathering for the project, we'd really like to understand how loneliness affects Swale residents, and ask them to take part in this short survey.
The project would be grateful if you could complete the survey and where possible, circulate the details to your staff. Paper copies of the survey are also available if you have staff members who do not have internet access. Please get in touch at Loneliness@SwaleVoluntaryAlliance.co.uk
Have your say on our Statement of Licensing Policy
The Licensing Act 2003 controls the sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment, and late-night refreshment. Swale Borough Council as the Licensing Authority is required to prepare and publish a statement of its licensing policy at least every five years.
It is now time to review our policy and publish a new edition. There have been some minor changes to the existing policy that we are now consulting on. The draft policy and details of the changes can be found on the Swale website by clicking on this link below.
The regular review and adoption of The Statement of Licensing Policy is essential in ensuring that our policies and procedures are up to date and effective in ensuring a safe and regulated environment for users of licensed premises.
We would welcome your feedback on the draft policy by no later than 19 September 2025.
