Thai Pongal Festival

Saturday 20 January

Thai Pongal is a celebration to thank the Sun, Mother Nature and the various farm animals that help to contribute to a bountiful harvest.

Join us and discover the Tamil Harvest Festival celebrated by the Tamil community of Stoke-on- Trent at the museum this year with traditional music, dance, food and more.

Enjoy a range of musical styles including Tamil classical musical instrument performances and a presentation of the ‘Parai’, a traditional frame drum.

There will be a variety of different dance performances including the classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam, Tamil Cinematic Dance and the Ramayana dance drama.

Visitors will also be able to see the Indian martial art form ‘Adimurai’.

Free, 11am – 5pm.
