TV Licensing Scam
Problem
Local residents have reported receiving unsolicited phone calls and emails from scammers claiming to be from TV Licensing.
The phone calls informed the residents that, while over-75s are still entitled to free TV licenses, they must register to claim them. It is likely that this was an attempt to obtain personal details and possibly financial information.
The emails informed the residents that a payment that they had made had not gone through and gave a link to follow in order to make the payment again.
Following the link would of course require the submission of personal and financial information.
Action
You should not give out personal or financial information to unsolicited callers. If they claim to be from an organisation that you do deal with, contact the organisation via the method you usually use and check whether they have been in contact with you.
If you receive one of these emails you should delete it immediately and do not click on the link.
If you think you have been a victim of fraud, contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or visit their website at http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/
