New vision for Stoke-on-Trent launched alongside budget proposals

The city council has today (Monday) launched its vision for the next four years, alongside budget proposals that aim to bring long-term sustainability to council services, invest in social care to protect vulnerable residents and invest in housing and infrastructure to grow the city.

 

The proposals aim to save £9.2m during 2020 – 2021 setting out a rise in council tax of 3.99 per cent with proposed job losses of 78.

Five-year plan to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping

The strategy is set to commit the city council and partners to focus on preventing homelessness and rough sleeping.

 

And will providing targeted and timely interventions and helping people to achieve sustainable recovery.

City schools to receive additional funding if changes to framework are agreed

Changes to the local funding framework mean that city schools will be allocated additional funding if approved by the city council’s Cabinet next week.

 

The annual review of our local funding framework took place in autumn 2019 and the proposals for 2020/21 were unanimously supported by the local Schools Forum in November 2019.

 

This review includes an increase in the minimum per pupil funding levels from £3,500 to £3,750 for all primary schools, and from £4,800 to £5,000 for all secondary schools.

Car keys

Multi-storey car park plans unveiled for city centre

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has unveiled plans to build a 730 space multi-storey car park in the city centre – to give shoppers, workers and visitors more choice and support the growth of the local economy.

 

The facility would be built on the site of the existing 106-space Broad Street car park, and would supply the parking demand from the thriving Smithfield office, hotel and residential development, wider city centre and expanding visitor numbers.

Wedding rings

Registrars service to move to Stoke Town Hall

The council’s Registrars service will move from Hanley Town Hall into the recently refurbished Stoke Town Hall later this year – offering more choice and better facilities for marriages and weddings.

 

The service is being moved between the Grade II listed buildings so that marriages and weddings can be hosted in their entirety at Stoke Town Hall, rather than across the two buildings.
