Recycle right over Christmas

Residents are reminded of the importance of recycling over Christmas.

 

The city council is reminding people the best ways to clear out the clutter and recycle over the festive period.

 

The council will be writing to residents in some areas of the city reminding them that blue recycling bins will not be collected between Christmas and New Year, with an extra bag being delivered to them for this period.

Christmas bin collection dates

City council climate change commission starts its mission to tackle climate concerns

Cabinet have confirmed details of how a climate change commission will work to change the city’s environmental priorities.

 

A commission will gather evidence for four months and will be led by councillor Carl Edwards, cabinet member for the environment.

 

Stoke-on-Trent City Full Council in July declared a climate emergency - the climate change commission have now established their priorities to improve the city’s environmental credentials.

Shared Lives family

New family to spend first Christmas together

A new family are set to spend their first Christmas together this year thanks to an adult social care initiative in Stoke-on-Trent.

Twenty-three-year-old Ashleigh moved in permanently with Nikki and her partner Vikki earlier this autumn.

 

They have since being enjoying spending time together as a family thanks to Shared Lives Stoke-on-Trent.

 

They are the first long-term placement for the service, which has a number of other families providing short-term and respite care.

Council commits to prioritising housing for care leavers

Young people leaving care in Stoke-on-Trent will benefit from increased priority for housing after changes to the city council’s housing allocations policy were approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s cabinet earlier this week.

The allocations policy sets out who is eligible for social housing in the city and what priority they will be given.
