Join us this September for all sorts of interesting events and activities - from fun on the buses to outdoor pottery firings.

Bottle Oven Dictionary Trail, Tuesdays - Saturdays in September

Pottery production has a language of its own with lots of unusual words and phrases. In this trail you can learn about saggars, thimbles, bonts and more while you search for them around the museum. Free pencil and entry into a prize draw for everyone who takes part. £1 plus admission.

Terms and Conditions Drop in Clay Workshops, Saturdays 7th  and 14th September  

BCB Ceramic Sculptor Joanna Dawidowska will working with visitors, offering the opportunity to enjoy a hands-on experience of working with raw clay that is playful, challenging and collaborative. For example, you could find yourself modelling clay while blindfolded while someone else describes an object. The workshops are included with museum admission 1 -  4pm and are suitable for all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult).

 

Classic Bus Running Day, Sunday 8th  September

The Potteries Omnibus Preservation Society will be holding a rally and running day at Gladstone. Come along and see preserved buses and take a ride on a classic vehicle using the comprehensive free bus service around the area.

The shop and café will be open but we will not be open for museum admissions.

Toddler Thursday - Fun for the Under 5s, Thursday 12th September

Learn, play and explore in our sessions especially for under 5’s and their parents or carers. £1 per child but normal admission applies if you wish to visit the rest of the museum.

Historic Walk of Longton, Friday 13th September

Longton’s buildings tell the industrial tale of the development of the area and the important role it played in the pottery industry. Taking in landmarks and some of the remaining bottle ovens of Longton, this walk is an ideal way to learn about the town’s history. Beginning at the Gladstone Shop at 2pm, the walk is free of charge and normal admission applies to the rest of the museum. To book please call 01782 237777.

Longton Heritage Walk, Wednesday 18th September

Join Jane Corfield and Jon Goodwin of the City Council’s Heritage Team for a walking tour of Longton Conservation Area, outlining its history and development. Find out about heritage-led regeneration and the Ceramic Heritage Action Zone. Leaving from the Gladstone Shop at 1.30pm. This event is free and normal admission charges apply to the rest of the museum. Please call 01782 237777 to book your place.

 

Heritage Open Day, Saturday 21st September

As part of the national celebration of our heritage we will be waiving our admission fee and it will be free to visit our award winning museum. Visitors will also be able to browse craft stalls from local makers in our cobbled courtyard at our annual craft fair. Admission free.

Raku Pottery Workshop, Saturday 28th September

Raku is a Japanese pottery firing process and in our hands-on sessions you can glaze and fire your own pot under the supervision of ceramicist Tez Roberts. Experience the excitement of an outdoor firing and produce your own ceramic masterpiece to take home with you. 10am – 12.30pm or 1 – 3.30pm, £25 per person (includes museum admission).
