Remembering 100 years since WW1

Longton market is working in partnership with The Royal British Legion, RAF Benevolent Fund, Armed Forces Careers Office (AFCO) and Longton Community Partnership to commemorate the 100 years since World War 1.

One of the thought-provoking Tommy silhouettes will be sited in the market and a range of activities will be taken to show our respect for those who have served our country.

If you have lost a loved one on active duty during the past 100 years, place a poppy on the remembrance net to honour their memory.

If you are considering joining the forces, pop in and speak to personnel who will be present offering guidance.

At 11am on both November 9 and 10, we will be observing a two-minute silence and a bugler will play the last post.

Call in and help to remember the brave military men and women who have given their lives for their country.

Other activities include a poppy trail. Music and film from bygone years will be played along with historical military speeches.

There will be children's activities and local school children will be visiting to learn more about the past 100 years and to show their respect.
