Your Stoke-on-Trent update

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend Middleport Pottery when the celebrated sculpture Poppies: Weeping Window by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper arrives in Stoke-on-Trent as part of 14-18 NOW’s UK-wide tour from Thursday, 2 August to Sunday 16 September.

We’re looking for volunteers to help visitors by answering questions, giving directions or just being a friendly face for a chat and wondered if any of your staff might be interested.

Full training will be given to all volunteers with the aim of having a minimum of three volunteers covering each shift. Volunteers can sign up for as little or as many shifts as they would like.

We’d like as many people as possible to get involved. Volunteering is great for team building and gives those involved the chance to do something different, learn extra skills, and meet new people. The roles on offer include visitor guides, welcome hosts, activity guides and a number of other positions.

Anyone who would like to be part of this amazing, beautiful and thought provoking event please contact communications@stoke.gov.uk  or call 01782 234 036.

Poppies: Weeping Window comes to Middleport Pottery as part of the final year of 14-18 NOW’s UK-wide tour.

The sculpture, alongside Wave, a sweeping arch of bright red poppy heads suspended on towering stalks by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper were initially conceived as the key dramatic sculptural elements in the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London in the summer and autumn of 2014. In their original setting they captured the public imagination and were visited by over five million people. 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, is presenting the iconic sculptures at selected locations around the UK until 2018. They have already been seen by 4 million people in 16 locations.Click to edit this placeholder.
