PC Dave Marshall

Benches available for memorial or commemoration.

One of the new park heritage benches was donated earlier in the year to a local PC Dave Marshall to mark the end of his career and in recognition of his 18 year service to the area.

A plaque with his name has been fitted to a heritage bench in the Cauldon Grounds, the first of 20 to be installed in the park as part of the ongoing £6 million restoration project.

The benches, which come with personalised plaques, can be leased by individuals, businesses or organisations for a ten-year period and will be located around the fountain in the Cauldon Grounds and also the Terrace Gardens in the main park.

They have been created by Newcastle-based PM Training using recreated moulds of the original bench support and the first 20 benches are now being offered at a subsidised cost of £1,000 for a ten-year lease, with money going back into the running of the park.

If you are interested in dedicating a bench in commemoration or memorial, email hanleypark@stoke.gov.uk or call 01782 238598.

Easter holiday activities

If you are looking for fun activities to entertain the children in the Easter holidays there is plenty going on in the park, completely free of charge for all the family.

The activities are run by our hard-working park liaison team and start from the 1960s bowls pavilion in the centre of the park next to the oval bowling green.

The wildlife explorer activities run from 2pm to 4pm and this week features an Earthwalk where you can use your senses to experience the natural world.

Friday, April 6: Fantastic Friday.

Games and activity adventures for the whole family. Games Galore runs from 2pm to 4pm and incorporates a fun-filled afternoon playing all sorts of games.

Tom Thumb’s Garden is a creative activity for children. Using our imagination we will be experiencing the park in a whole new way, just the height of Tom Thumb. Join us in the park from 2pm to 4pm.

Wednesday, April 11: Wild Wednesday.

The wildlife explorer activities run from 2pm to 4pm and this week features Throw Of The Dye, where we will be having a go at dying eggs for Easter. Bring along your own hard boiled eggs.

Friday, April 13: Fantastic Friday.

Games and activity adventures for the whole family. This Friday we will be den building, using our imagination and basic techniques to build our own shelters.

Pavilion Interior

Restoration update

Work on the main pavilion is gaining pace and although it looks like things are getting worse the contractors CASEY have been stripping the building to its bare bones in order to build it back up again.

Last month they let us into the building to see what it looks like now the roof and most of the interior walls have been removed. Due to the historic nature of the building works have now been extended and we are hoping for it to be complete by the end of the year and opening as a café to the general public by spring 2019.
