Hanley Town Hall to turn purple
for National Epilepsy Awareness
Day
Hanley Town Hall will be turning purple on Monday, March 26 in
honour of National Epilepsy Awareness Day.
Epilepsy affects more than 2,200 people in the city.
Purple lights will illuminate the city centre building from 6.30pm
– and businesses in the city are being encouraged to get involved.
The international Purple Day campaign aims to increase awareness
about epilepsy worldwide. On this day, people across the world are encouraged
to wear purple and host events to show their support.
Epilepsy is a condition of the brain that is characterised by
recurrent seizures. A seizure may take many different forms, including a blank
stare, muscle spasms, uncontrolled movements, altered awareness, odd
sensations, or a convulsion. In more than half of those people with epilepsy,
seizures can be well controlled with medication.
