Discovering Hanley Park

Welcome to week three of summer in Hanley Park

Summer activities are back again in week three of the holidays.

We've teamed up with Stoke 100 Reads, drawing inspiration from 17 of the 'parkiest' books from the list.

Thanks to Stoke-on-Trent Libraries and the National Literacy Trust for their support.

Join us for all activities (except the Little Library Van) at the former bowls pavilion, at the oval in the centre of the park.

To find us: Start from the play areas, then cross the canal using the step-bridge by the bandstand (there's step-free access a little further along) and look for the building and flags over to the right.

Car parking: Our Boughey Road/Avenue Road car park is closed to support restoration works traffic and the delivery of building materials.

Alternative parking is available off The Parkway.

Contact Claire Studman on 07584 174465 or Tom Pine 07787 005946 for more information, or email us at hanleypark@stoke.gov.uk

Monday 7 August, 2pm - 4pm: Magic Monday - Shark In The Park

Shark in the Park

Today's Magic Monday is inspired by the book Shark In The Park, by Nick Sharratt.

Make a telescope like Timothy Pope and use it to discover things in the park. Can you find things in the park that look like shark fins too?

Tuesday 8 August, 10am to 3pm: Little Library Van Summer Roadshow

We're looking forward to welcoming Emma and Anna as the Little Library Van visits Hanley Park this summer.

The Little Library Van team helps families to discover a love of books and reading by sharing books, stories, nursery rhymes and songs on board the Little Library Van, and supporting families to access their local library.

Let's build a love of reading to last a lifetime.

Wednesday 9 August, 2pm to 4pm: Wild Wednesday - Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are

Come and explore the wild things in Hanley Park's secret garden, inspired by Maurice Sendak's famous story.

Look for fantastic creatures in the pond, the grass, the bushes, treetops and under logs. Then finish with a role play of your favourite wild thing.

Friday 11 August, 2pm - 4pm: Fantastic Friday - The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark

Owl

Today's Fantastic Friday is inspired by the book The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark, by Jill Tomlinson

Join us for a range of games, where you will be blindfolded and have to use you senses of touch, hearing and teamwork.
