Working to improve your roads and footpaths

This year, the city council will be carrying out an unprecedented roads and footpaths resurfacing programme. This will include reconstructing some roads and carrying out work to extend the life of the road.

We will also be carrying out some large areas of patching work and a major footpath replacement programme.

While every effort will be made to cause as little disruption as possible, such a large programme of work will inevitably cause some delays to your journeys.

Thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation during this very busy period.

Please help to keep our staff safe by slowing down as you drive through the roadworks.

This week the city council will be:

  • resurfacing Back Ford Green Road off Chell Heath Road in Smallthorne, moving on to Encounter  Place in Northwood later in the week.
  • rebuilding the footpaths in Wallis Way,  Brogan Street, St Matthews Street, Colville Street and sections of Fenpark Road all in Fenton and Esperanto Way In Smallthorne.

Roadworks carried out by other organisations

Many of the roadworks you encounter when travelling around the city won't be carried out by the city council, but by utilities companies such as water, gas or electric.

Click here to see what roadworks are planned for your area and set up alerts for your regular routes. You can also see who is carrying out the work.

Please note: there are times when work has to be carried out as an unplanned emergency and these works may not be on the map.
