A reminder of host responsibilities
If a colleague-in-training has been on leave - such as maternity/paternity leave or long-term sickness - their email account may be deactivated during their absence.
As the host, it’s your responsibility to ensure their account is reactivated before they return.
To avoid delays and support a smooth transition back to work, we recommend contacting your local IT Team well in advance.

A reminder to support your colleagues-in-training
As part of our shared responsibility to support the wellbeing and development of our colleagues-in-training (CITs), we kindly ask that you help ensure they are given protected time to complete their mandatory training requirements.
This training is essential for patient safety and professional development. When CITs are supported to meet their obligations without sacrificing clinical time or personal wellbeing, everyone benefits.
Please can you:
- Ensure mandatory training is included in rota arrangements where possible
- Avoid scheduling conflicting duties during protected learning time
This year marks the 6th anniversary of International HR Day! To celebrate, we’ve created a short video showcasing how our role goes far beyond traditional HR services.
We take pride in supporting colleagues-in-training throughout their journey - offering not only guidance and advocacy, but also a commitment to their wellbeing and professional development. Our support extends far beyond contracts and compliance.

Supporting annual leave for your colleagues-in-training
Ensuring colleagues-in-training take their full annual leave entitlement during placements is essential - not only for their wellbeing but also for delivering safe, high-quality patient care.
We encourage colleagues-in-training to plan their leave throughout the year and include regular reminders in our communications. Please continue to support your colleagues-in-training in taking their full entitlement.
Payment of annual leave should only be made for extraordinary circumstances where the annual leave was not able to be taken or carried over to the next placement.

Please do share our wellbeing resources with your colleagues-in-training.
Support is available
We understand that many of our hosts and colleagues-in-training are based in the North West, particularly within the Merseyside region. In light of the recent tragic incident in Liverpool on Monday 26th May, we want to acknowledge the potential emotional impact this may have had.
If any of your colleagues-in-training have been affected by the events of that day, please know that support is available. Our Wellbeing Team is here should they wish to speak to someone in confidence. Whether they choose to reach out to a peer, a trusted colleague, or access our formal health and wellbeing services, we encourage them to do so.

This month, we’re focusing on Men’s Health Week and Pride Month. We recognise the vital work of our colleagues-in-training and the pressures they face. Our goal is to ensure all feel supported, seen, and valued wherever they’re training.
