NHS birthday reflections
The NHS turned 76 last week!
Over the years, the NHS has undergone many changes, but its core principles have remained the same - to provide high-quality, comprehensive healthcare to all.
On Friday 5th July, we joined in birthday celebrations by hearing from our Medical Director, Professor Andrew Rowland and Assistant Director of HR, Jo Redhead to understand what the NHS means to them. We also caught up with Dr Onyeka Ogbodo, an international GP trainee, to learn about what he enjoys most about working in the NHS.
|
We would like to express our gratitude for all that you do. Your commitment to public health and wellbeing is truly invaluable. Here's to many more years of serving with compassion, kindness, and excellence!
Sexual safety charter in the NHS
We held our annual host stakeholder event last week
We're committed to the provision of a safe working environment for all our trainees and work collaboratively with host organisations and external stakeholders directly to bring about change.
Last week, we linked in with HR, Medical Staffing teams, and Educational Leads to discuss the above and the importance of creating a workplace culture where people feel safe to speak up and supported to do so.
Guest speakers, Michael Wright, Hill Dickinson, and Dr Chelcie Jewitt, Surviving in Scrubs, both delivered informative presentations with key takeaway messages on the topic.

Becoming an LNC representative
Local Negotiating Committee
|
|
LNCs are made up of elected local representatives (all trainees employed by Lead Employer) who consult and negotiate with our Senior Leadership team on behalf of all medical and dental staff within their accredited regions.
Please contact your region's local BMA Industrial Relations Officer if there are any collective matters you wish to discuss relating to your training and employment at the upcoming July meetings.
Further details including how to get in touch and meeting dates can be found below:

Important information as we approach rotations
As we're approaching the August and September rotations, please check your payslips for any deductions that have been set up for car parking or mess fees during placements.
If the deduction is no longer applicable, it will continue to be taken from your salary unless you have instructed the host trust that you're rotating out of to stop it.
Please contact Medical Staffing at the trust the deduction relates to and ask that they inform Lead Employer Payroll of any cancellations to ensure you don't continue to make a payment for parking at a trust you're no longer placed with.
Likewise, if you wish to arrange for a new deduction for car parking to be set up, contact your new placement's Medical Staffing who can notify our Payroll team.
*Please don't contact our Payroll team direct as the cancellation instruction or set up must come direct from the trust that you will be on placement with.

P11Ds available to view on ESR
P11Ds for the 2023-24 tax year are now accessible on ESR
Please ensure that you download and save P11Ds for your personal records as we're unable to provide copies of this. If you're due to complete training, after your employment with us ends, a copy of your P11D will also be sent out in the post to the home address you have registered on ESR.
Please consider the below
For those who are soon to be completing your specialty training, please be assured that our team are working hard to ensure that you experience a smooth transition to continue your onward career.
If you're soon to be leaving employment with us, please ensure you:
|
- Download your payslip and P60 as this information isn't accessible after your leaving date
- Liaise with your host organisation to verify any outstanding payments/deductions through your final salary
On behalf of everyone at Lead Employer, we would like to take the opportunity to wish you all the success in your future career and thank you for your service.

North West Collaborative Bank (NWCB) update
Rebranding coming soon!
We partner with 24 Trusts across the North West and the workforce platform Patchwork Health operating the UK’s largest doctors-in-training Collaborative Bank. Due to the success of the NWCB in the North West, plans are underway to implement an exciting rebrand. Watch this space!
Important reminder
If you're a trainee currently working shifts on the NWCB and are due to finish your training soon, please note that you once your employment ends with us, you will receive a notification from Patchwork to confirm that you can longer work any further shifts.
Any outstanding shifts which are still to be paid will be done so in the usual way via the NWCB assignment.

Exception reporting - reminder
What is exception reporting?
Exception reporting provides you the opportunity to inform us when your day-to-day work varies significantly and/or regularly from previously agreed work schedules.
All exception reports can be viewed by the Guardian of Safe working hours, Dr Peter Arthur, so that potential trends and patterns can be identified and investigated.
All the information including guidance on how to log in to Allocate - the exception reporting system - can be found here.
A doctor's guide to everyday leadership
Supporting doctors as they develop into new or more senior roles
Dr Aneka Popat has been a Marx (clinical) fellow at the General Medical Council (GMC) since September 2021. During her time at the GMC she has explored how doctors can develop leadership skills in busy and demanding roles while dealing with competing priorities.
