New noticeboards to be installed
Two new community noticeboards are to be installed at the Bedwell precinct and on Rockingham Way.
We worked with the newly set up Bedwell Community Group to find a way to help share community news, after identifying that there was a lack of noticeboards locally. Councillors Conor McGrath, Ellie Plater & Nazmin Chowdhury allocated some of their Local Community Budgets funding to pay for the purchase and installation of the boards. They are expected to be installed over the Summer. If you’d like to add anything to the boards, please contact community.development@stevenage.gov.uk.

Share your views on a new community garden
We want to hear your views on the creation of a community garden.
The proposal is for the new community garden to be created near the recently planted community orchard in Hampson Park and would help to cross pollinate the fruit trees in the orchard as well as providing a green space for local residents to enjoy. Local Councillors propose to allocate some of their Local Community Budget to pay for the planting.
We will be carrying out a consultation with local residents to find out what you’d like to see in this space so look out for information in the community centre and on the local noticeboards. If you’d like more information or would like to be involved, please contact community.development@stevenage.gov.uk

#WorthSaving – Save Food, Save Money |
|
Did you know that almost a quarter of waste in bins is edible food?
Research shows that around £720 is wasted per household each year by throwing away edible food.
It is easy to give food waste the chop just by tweaking what we do across four steps to save.

Newly refurbished tennis courts at Shephalbury Park |
|
|
Shephalbury Park tennis courts have officially reopened after a £112,000 refurbishment.
The tennis courts are managed by the National Tennis Association (NTA), on behalf of Stevenage Borough Council. The NTA will deal with the day-to-day operation of the courts, which includes online bookings and a range of programmes and coaching courses using highly qualified tennis coaches.
The court refurbishments, which have been funded by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation, have undergone extensive work to ensure viability for years to come, including being completely resurfaced with green painted courts with blue surrounds, and repairs being made to the fencing. A new gate has been installed, with a unique gate entry system to enable online bookings, and new signage has been put up. Overhanging shrubbery has also been cut back to avoid foliage dropping on to the courts.
This nationwide programme of investment is seeing thousands of existing park tennis courts in poor or unplayable condition brought back to life for the benefit of communities across the country, providing vital opportunities for children and adults to get active.
