A34 Scheme continues
Crews are continuing to work on this large-scale project, and are making good progress.
Pavement works on the western side between Windsor Road and Queensville Roundabout are now substantially complete, and the construction for this phase is scheduled for completion by 25 April.
The final surfacing along Radford Bank up to Queensville Roundabout began on 17 March. This is being carried out in four phases, and is planned to be complete in late April. Currently, we have a temporary road surface and traffic management in place for these works, as well as night-time closures between 8pm and 6am.
Phase 4 - Queensville Roundabout
Construction is also continuing on the Queensville Roundabout and its approaches, and is expected to finish in early May. Ongoing works include drainage repairs and improvements, carriageway and footway resurfacing, upgraded street lighting, and upgraded pedestrian and cycle routes.
Traffic management involves narrow lanes and lane closures with single entry and exit onto the Queensville Roundabout. Temporary traffic lights will be used for a limited time on Silkmore Lane.
The final surfacing at Queensville Roundabout will be carried out in conjunction with the Radford Bank works between late March and early May. This surfacing will also occur during night-time closures (normally between 8pm - 6am) and will be phased as follows:
-
Silkmore Lane and access to Queens Retail Park: Between 27th March – 1st May (over 6 nights) for initial and final surfacing together with road markings.
-
A34 Queensville and exit to Queens Retail Park: Between 31st March – 3rd May (over 6 nights) for initial and final surfacing together with road markings.
During the daytime, works will continue with lane closures for kerbing, footways, adjusting ironwork, and testing.
Once again, we want to thank you for your patience as our crews carry out these essential works.
North Walls works nearing completion
Works to North Walls are progressing well and are due to finish in mid-April.
Works include the creation of a shared cycle route across Gaolgate Street and adjacent to Plumbits, the retention of existing parking bays, an advisory contraflow cycle lane on North Walls (access road) to the A34 Queensway, and resurfacing of the raised bit at the junction of North Walls and Malt Mill Lane.
Added to this, crews will be working on drainage, earthworks, partial demolition and rebuilding of a planting bed, kerbing, pavements, surfacing, traffic signs, and road markings.
Various traffic management measures will be in place, including road narrows and footpath diversions along North Walls, lane closures along North Walls, and specific road closures and diversions:
-
Gaolgate Street: Closed between 27/03/25 – 08/04/25 with a diversion in place.
-
North Walls / Malt Mill Lane Junction: Road closure and diversion on Sunday 6 April.
-
