Community group wins MBE of volunteering awards
Congratulations to Staffordshire Care Farming!
Their Wellies Project has received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service – the highest honour for local voluntary groups in the UK! Through activities like gardening, woodworking, cooking, and working with animals and therapy dogs, the project has helped boost the confidence and skills of local residents during some of the toughest times in their lives.
We’re proud to be working with Staffordshire Care Farming as part of our Community Learning Service, helping people develop skills and confidence for a brighter future.
Over 1,900 people have already been supported by our Community Learning Service this year alone!

COP29 - reducing our carbon emissions
We're making great progress towards our goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Since declaring a climate change emergency in 2019, we've already reduced carbon emissions by 52%!
Here are some of the ways we're working to make Staffordshire greener:
- invested in energy-efficient upgrades to buildings and schools, like LED lighting, saving nearly four million kilowatt-hours of electricity
- expanded our use of sustainable hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel in our vehicles, cutting 146 tonnes of carbon emissions
- provided over £270,000 in funding to 74 local community groups through our Climate Action Fund to support climate-related projects

Mechanical engineer lands dream job
Shumaila Hisham recently secured her dream job as a mechanical design engineer at G.E. Vernova, thanks to support from our Staffordshire Jobs and Careers service.
After taking time off to care for her family, Shumaila was unsure how to re-enter the job market. Our employment experts helped Shumaila build her confidence and connected her to the government’s STEM ReCharge program, where she refined her resume and interview skills.
Now thriving in her new role, Shumaila encourages anyone interested in engineering to reach out to our team.

November is World Diabetes Month, raising awareness about diabetes and its symptoms.
Did you know that over three million people in England are living with type 2 diabetes, and this number could rise to more than five million by 2025?
Type 2 diabetes is preventable. However, if left untreated, it can lead to serious health complications, such as blindness, amputations, stroke, and heart attacks.
Everyone Health offers free NHS Health Checks designed to spot early signs of conditions like stroke, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.
It’s free to anyone aged 40-74 who lives in Staffordshire and doesn’t have pre-existing health conditions like high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, or heart problems.
If you’d like to find out more, call 0333 005 095 or text HEART to 60777 to book your free health check at one of one of these venues.
