Keep animals safe this Bonfire Night
As Bonfire Night approaches, please help keep animals safe.
Fireworks and bonfires can be stressful, even dangerous for local wildlife, especially hedgehogs. These small animals often hide in piles of leaves and branches. Sadly, hedgehog numbers have halved in the past decade, so it’s vital we all do our bit to protect these endangered animals.
Our countryside rangers have shared some simple steps to help keep both wildlife and pets safe during the celebrations.

Maysel Yankey, a young mum from Lichfield, has secured her dream job in public service thanks to support from our Open Door programme. After just six weeks on a voluntary placement, Maysel was offered a paid role in our Performance and Change team.
Reflecting on her experience, Maysel said, "The Open Door programme was an incredible opportunity for me to learn, grow, and change careers." In her new role, she supports various council departments to improve services and ensure residents can have their say about local green spaces.
