Preparing for the opening of the new Staffordshire History Centre
Exciting times are ahead as we gear up for the grand opening of the multimillion-pound Staffordshire History Centre! Last week, we partnered with Wide Sky Design to film a special welcome video for our new welcome wall, helping visitors explore the centre's features.
A huge thank you to our fantastic volunteers who took part in the filming! They had the chance to explore our stunning new displays, try out the interactive audio guides, and got a sneak peak at our collections. Not only did they enjoy playing 'stars' for the day, but they also got an exclusive preview of what's to come when the centre officially opens.
Visit the Staffordshire History Centre Blog for more updates as we continue preparing to welcome you to the Staffordshire History Centre!
£18 million investment for Staffordshire's green spaces
We are investing £18 million to enhance Cannock Chase, Chasewater, and the Staffordshire Way. This funding aims to improve these popular outdoor areas, which have seen increased visitors since the pandemic.
Plans include transforming Chasewater into a regional destination and developing a National Landscape discovery centre at Cannock Chase. Consultants are also assessing the Staffordshire Way and its circular walks to improve accessibility and create new walking guides.
Long-term goals involve upgrading visitor facilities at Marquis Drive and the south shore of Chasewater, focusing on health and community engagement. These projects will be designed to be inclusive and environmentally friendly.
Watch Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, discuss the upcoming investment.
Celebrating professional care workers' week
This week, we are celebrating the vital contributions of care workers across Staffordshire.
Meet Rebecca Redfern, Registered Manager at Woodview Care Home in Newcastle-under-Lyme. After starting her journey as a care assistant, Rebecca trained as a mental health nurse before returning to care. Now, 13 years later, Rebecca manages an award-winning care home.
Rebecca shares: "The most important thing is just being human - laughing, joking and smiling with residents. I would absolutely recommend working in care."
Working in care isn’t just a job – it’s a career that makes a real difference in people’s lives. Explore opportunities in care with Staffordshire Jobs and Careers.
