£1.6m Coton Lane resurfacing project starts soon
A major road in Tamworth is set to be resurfaced in September, as part of a £1.6 million Staffordshire County Council project.
The highways improvement scheme will see crews completely resurface the C0370 Coton Lane, from the junction of the A513 Comberford Road and the southern junction of Fontenaye Road.
The first phase of this project will begin on Monday 16 September. This will include replacing kerbs and ironwork, tactile crossing upgrades, minor footway patching, drainage repairs and cleaning and jetting the highway gullies and manholes.
These initial works will be carried out under temporary traffic signals between 7.30am and 4.30pm. Temporary traffic signals may need to remain in place overnight for everyone’s safety.
These civil works are expected to be completed by Friday 18 October.
Information about the second stage of these works will be made available in the coming weeks.

The Pothole Pro is coming to Tamworth
Staffordshire’s JCB Pothole Pro is coming to Tamworth on a mission to help patch up the town’s potholes and prepare roads for surface treatments.
From Monday 26 August, you will be able to spot the machine repairing potholes and defects in Lichfield Road between the Coton Lane and Tame Drive roundabouts.
This is to prepare the road to undergo surface dressing – a process that prolongs the life of roads by up to 15 years.
The JCB Pothole Pro machine is a unique 3-in-1 machine, designed to repair potholes in an average time of eight minutes.
Staffordshire County Council will be carrying our more than 450 preventative maintenance schemes in 2024/25 totalling around 1.5 million square metres.
This is all part of a £50 million investment in maintaining and improving Staffordshire’s highways over the next three years.

Upper Gungate reconstruction planned for early 2025
A major highways improvement scheme at Aldergate and Upper Gungate has been scheduled for early next year.
The project will see the reconstruction and resurfacing of the road between Lichfield Street and Comberford Road. Works will also include improvements to a section of Offa Drive, along with repairs to kerbs and ironworks in the area.
The scheme, which was originally going to go ahead this summer, had to be pushed back due to essential gas supply works being identified.
It is expected that the work will start around February and take around 12 weeks to complete.
Further details about traffic management will be made available nearer the time.
