Developer partner chosen to drive forward Stafford town centre regeneration plans

A developer partner has been selected by Staffordshire County Council to progress a major regeneration scheme in the centre of Stafford. ION Developments will now work with the county council to take forward the Eastgate regeneration scheme. The redevelopment aims to increase the area’s attraction to new residents, businesses and visitors, helping to establish Stafford as a leading UK county town. Outline proposals have been submitted by ION for residential and mixed-use developments on the sites including the potential reuse of a large part of the former county council offices which are currently vacant. The proposals are likely to include new public realm and green spaces near to St Chad's Place and a new ‘South Walls Square’, supported by a mix of living and commercial spaces to create more engaging spaces for residents and visitors. They also feature a connectivity strategy aimed at creating greater access to Stafford’s assets such as the River Sow, and better connecting educational, commercial and leisure facilities to residential areas. ION has more than 30 years’ experience of working with local authorities to deliver transformational urban regeneration projects in Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, Wolverhampton and Denbighshire. It is currently supporting Derby City Council on its long-term plans for the regeneration of Derby city centre.

Green Solutions, in affiliation with the Business Energy Advice Service, is a programme that offers support to businesses in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Businesses can access:

Energy assessments - a free assessment that will look at your energy consumption and provide you with recommendations to save money and reduce your emissions.

Low carbon grants - the opportunity to apply for grants of between £1,000 and £100,000 (cover up to 50% of eligible costs) to implement recommendations from your energy assessment.

Carbon literacy training - a free eight-hour training course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Staffordshire Moorlands ‘To Thrive’ business grant scheme

A new fund has been launched to help support Staffordshire Moorlands SMEs on their business growth journey.

Overseen by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Staffordshire County Council, the 'To Thrive' grants of between £2,000 to £5,000 will be available for costs associated with the implementation of plans to achieve business growth. This can include:

- Purchase of equipment or machinery costing less than £10k
- Website design including online payment facilities
- Review of business strategy
- Computers/laptops for new starters only ie if a new job has been created in the last three months or is going to be created imminently.

To be eligible for the scheme, your business must meet certain criteria including being based in Staffordshire Moorlands, employing fewer than 250 full-time equivalent persons, having an annual turnover not exceeding 50 million euros and/or have an annual balance sheet total not exceeding 43 million euros.
