February 2023
Welcome
Hello and welcome to the latest Highways bulletin.
This month we’re doing a special update on our investment into major resurfacing schemes across the county.
Resurfacing schemes
In March 2022, we announced an additional investment of £15m into the county's roads, with £5.2m used to fund major road resurfacing projects.
On top of the structural maintenance work already taking place, the extra investment has enabled us to target an additional eight important locations across Staffordshire. These roads have been chosen based on their current condition and the fact they are major gateways for traffic into our towns.
Carriageway resurfacing is an extensive structural maintenance treatment and involves removing worn out road surface and replacing this with new material. Each scheme requires a significant amount of money which means we are unable to treat all of the roads on our network that are in need of resurfacing.
See below for an update on each of the eight gateway resurfacing schemes - some schemes are still in progress and some have been recently completed.

Highways crews coped with some very inclement weather during January and February in order to complete this project, which included full resurfacing of a major roundabout gateway into Burntwood.
Costing £300k and carried out near a busy junction of the A5, crews worked throughout the night to try and reduce disruption to traffic during the day. Works included a full resurface of the road, the cleaning and repairing of drainage systems, and a trim of any overhanging shrubs and trees.

B4210 Broad Lane, Essington / Springhill
Drainage, kerbing and footway surfacing works have now been completed and our crews are currently working on the carriageway resurfacing phase of this scheme.
Full carriageway resurfacing will take place between the junction of A461 Bursnips Road and Springhill Farm; with additional patching in various locations between Springhill Farm ending at the Mercia Forest Crematorium.
During the next couple of weeks, crews will be resurfacing the carriageway, resetting ironwork, replacing traffic sensing loops for the signals, and replacing the road markings throughout.
The scheme, which will cost £700k, is expected to be completed in March.
