City Council announce transformation of Swift House into The Goods Yard

Stoke-on-Trent City Council are working with award-winning developer Capital & Centric to create a new iconic urban quarter next to the city's main railway station.

The plans will see the Swift House site transformed into The Goods Yard, with around 180 new homes, a 150 bed hotel,  25,000 sq ft of workspaces and 10,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.

Located next to Stoke-on-Trent train station, which will be served in the future by HS2, and on the doorstep of Staffordshire University, the Trent and Mersey Canal and the A500, the site is an ideal location for commuters, students, visitors and businesses.

Did you know there's a piece of Stoke-on-Trent on Mars?

Local firm Lucideon helps put colour into perspective

Colour standards developed by international materials technology company Lucideon are helping to ensure that the colours captured by the Perseverance mission to Mars are recorded to pinpoint accuracy.

The swatches, made in Stoke-on-Trent, have been placed on a set of calibration devices to support the Mastcam-Z camera system on the Perseverance rover which has been developed by NASA as part of its latest quest to explore the past habitability of Mars.

The devices will be used by scientists to fine-tune the signals received from the cameras, which have been engineered to zoom in, focus and take 3D pictures and video at high speed to allow detailed examination of both close and distant objects on the planet.

SSLEP responds to spring budget announcement

The SSLEP has welcomed the government's spring budget as a budget to help get SMEs back on their feet.

Chair Alun Rogers has particularly welcomed the 'Help to Grow' programme that helps businesses invest in the training and skills they need to grow over the long term.

The new super-deduction was also welcomed;  helping companies to cut their tax bill by 25p for every pound and drive investment in SMEs.
