Book a test plea issued as cases start to rise
Council health chiefs are making a plea for people to get a coronavirus test if they live in one of the county’s ‘hotspot’ areas – even if they don’t have symptoms.
Despite everyone’s best efforts, the number of Covid cases in the county is starting to creep back up, with the whole of Newcastle borough now classed as a hotspot.
People in the hotspot areas should book a test either at one of the rapid Covid community testing sites, or through the national portal by choosing the option “my local council has asked me to book a test” when prompted.
Identified ‘hotspot’ areas will be announced by the council every week.

Rapid testing for community hotspots
People in 'hotspot' areas should book a rapid covid test at one of our community sites. Details of sessions this week and how to book can be found here.
If there are no community sessions planned people should book a test via the national portal and choose “my local council has asked me to book a test”. This is even if you feel well and don’t have any symptoms.
If you display any symptoms, including precautionary ones, book as per normal on the national portal.
Self-isolation for contacts of people with confirmed coronavirus has been shortened from 14 to 10 days across the UK as from today.
