How we're supporting your business

The LEP is supporting businesses 100% through the coronavirus to recover and thrive in the future.  

Working with partners, the LEP not only funds direct business support services such as the Growth Hub and the Skills Hub, but also continues to invest and support in projects that mean stability and growth for everyone in the long-term.

Chairman and business owner Alun Rogers introduces the LEP and details what it’s doing in the current crisis.

Start-ups

Staffordshire support scheme launched ready for county start-ups

A support programme for people with ambitions of starting their own business and whose current employment may be at risk due to the coronavirus crisis has been launched by the county council.

The Staffordshire Start-up Programme aims to build on and complement existing support for new businesses, with a focus on helping them to be robust in overcoming future challenges. The aim is to aid the creation of 200 start-up business in key sectors in Staffordshire each year, with the programme set out over three years.

People across the county who have been furloughed, whose job may be at risk, who have already been made redundant or see this period as an opportunity to progress their start-up plans are being urged to get in touch.

Covid-19 recovery checklist for business

The restrictions placed on some businesses to stop trading to help limit the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus are being gradually eased.

Regular announcements are being made identifying which businesses may now open, along with the release of Government guidance on what precautions must be in place before trading can restart.

More than 250 businesses apply for £2.8m grant scheme

More than 250 applications have been received for a £2.8m grant scheme to support small businesses through the coronavirus restrictions.

The deadline for the Stoke-on-Trent City Council-administered funding passed on Wednesday.

The council will now review all responses for the funding before awarding grants. The money is from the government’s Local Authority Discretionary Grants Fund, and small businesses in the city had a week to apply.

Local Industrial Strategy - executive summary

The aim of the SSLEP Local Industrial Strategy is to set out a blueprint for driving economic growth and productivity in our area.

Throughout last year, we worked closely with businesses, HE/FE and public sector leaders to understand conditions ‘on the ground’ in the region.

This culminated in a draft consultation strategy in early 2020. Since then, the LEP has been responding to the challenges presented by Covid-19 and is developing a revised implementation plan in light of the current crisis.

An executive summary has been produced, which provides an overview of the LIS.
