Coronavirus Update 23.03.20
The spread of Coronavirus across the country means we’re facing the biggest challenge of our generation. We know these are worrying times for Staffordshire's communities.
This update includes important information about how the county council is supporting local residents and how you can help the most vulnerable in your community, as well as yourselves and your own families.
How the county council is helping
- We are working very closely with Government and the NHS to ensure the most vulnerable in our society are protected, and everyone has the help they need.
- We are also working closely with care homes and care providers to ensure people continue to have care.
- We're giving advice and support to schools and nurseries on how they can carry out their new roles looking after the children of critical workers
- We are creating an army of volunteers including students to help with key tasks
- We're working with our bus companies to change their timetables to align with supermarket opening times for older people
- Our own staff have been asked to switch to front line roles including caring, driving and housework
It is an extremely testing time, but we are prioritising our core services to ensure the people who need the most help will get it.
How you can help - Coronavirus Kindness
 Many people are pulling together to help others as more and more people need to stay at home and avoid contact with people because of coronavirus (Covid-19).
Together we can pull together to help those who need it the most.
How to help others safely:
- Start with family and friends, then look to people in your street
- Deliver some food supplies
- Collect and drop off medicines
- Tackle loneliness by staying connected – download an app, or pick up the phone
- Join experienced volunteer groups

Stay at Home
This week an estimated 20,000 super-vulnerable residents in Staffordshire, such as those who have had organ transplants or some cancers, will receive a letter from the NHS telling them to stay at home and shield themselves from physical contact with the outside world.
But there's things we can all to do protect the most vulnerable in our society.
- Work from home wherever possible
- Stay in touch with friends, but only via phone and online
- Make sure to practice 'social distancing' - keep two metres apart from anyone when you are out and about
By making these changes to the way we go about our daily routines and interact with each other, we can help stop the spread of coronavirus.
