Staffordshire History Festival

September sees the start of the Staffordshire History Festival across Staffordshire Libraries and Arts, Archives and Museums – a two-month celebration of our local history and cultural heritage in Staffordshire. There will be a range of events, activities, exhibitions and other opportunities to engage with our past.

Whether you’re interested in finding out about your family tree, your community’s history, the vast range of historical documents held in the County, or events and exhibitions to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the discover of the Staffordshire Hoard or the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II, there will be something for you during the Staffordshire History Festival.

Choose from over 100 events run or hosted by Staffordshire’s Libraries, Arts, Archives and Heritage services. Exhibitions and stock displays, talks, history walks, history and heritage open days, family history sessions and activities for children will be running throughout September and October.

Councillor Gill Heath - Chase through Time

Staffordshire County Council Libraries Chief, Libraries Gill Heath says:

“It’s great to see Staffordshire Libraries offering so many interesting events for the Staffordshire History Festival. The aim of this two-month celebration is to bring local and family history and culture alive and to help people discover the fascinating stories about the places where they live and show everyone how important libraries are in helping people on this journey of discovery. For many of us, the local library is our best gateway to learning more about local history.”

The exhibition features a 1930s pattern book from New Chelsea Pottery, an early 19th century Chinese tea figure and an illustration from Robert Plot's Natural History of Staffordshire, 1686.
