We hope you had a great summer holiday and you had a chance to relax and enjoy the warmer weather.  The new Autumn term is upon us once again with all the excitement of the season that it brings.  We look forward to sharing it with you!


Summer Reading Challenge 2019

Space Chase

Have your children completed the Summer Reading Challenge yet?  This year's SRC, Space Chase, finishes on Monday 9th September so take a small step to your local library to make sure they collect their completer's medal and certificate. Go to your local Staffordshire Library to find out more.

SLS Book Sale

Staffordshire SLS are having a book sale from Thursday 30th October to Thursday 7th November.  All books will be £1 each - payment by cash or cheque only.

Opening hours: 9:30am to 4:00pm

Location: Unit 4A, Astonfields Industrial Estate, Drummond Road, Stafford ST16 3HJ (where the purple book is on the map).

Cressida Cowell Books

Children's Laureate 2019-2021

Back in July Cressida Cowell was announced as the new Waterstones Children's Laureate for 2019 to 2021.  Cressida is the author of the How to Train Your Dragon and Emily Brown series of books.  Cressida stated that her main priority are libraries, both school and public.  She stated; "I'm going to be campaigning that school libraries ought to be statutory, along with making the argument that public libraries and librarians are still relevant in the modern world..."

National Poetry Day 2019

National Poetry Day 2019

National Poetry Day is on Thursday 3rd October this year across the UK.  This is a chance to read and write fantastic poetry. It's the 25th anniversary of the event and the theme for this year is Truth.


Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl Day 2019

Roald Dahl Day is celebrated on the author's birthday, 13th September, every year.  Roald Dahl wrote several highly popular books for children including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, and James and the Giant Peach.  His books have been translated into 58 different languages and have sold over 200 million copies worldwide (picture: Metro and Quentin Blake).

The Bug Collector 

A delightful picture book by Alex G Griffiths which is aimed at 3 to 7 year olds.  After a trip to a museum, with his grandfather, a boy goes catching bugs.  This story, about collecting wildlife, includes an environmental message and factual information.

What's That in Dog Years - Ben Davis

What's That in Dog Years?

This book, written by Ben Davis, is for 9 to 13 year olds.  It’s a funny and emotional story about 13 year old George and his dog Gizmo.  George is struggling at school, his best friend, Matt, becomes friends with George's bullies and his Dad has a new girlfriend.  The only one George can rely on is his faithful dog.  However, Gizmo has a funny turn and the vet says that Gizmo hasn't long left.  So George makes Gizmo a bucket list of all the fun things he should do.


Where the River Runs Gold

A novel written by Sita Brahmachari for 11 to 14 year olds.  The city of Kairos was once beautiful but now the flowerbeds are built over and the bees have disappeared.  Children are sent to the Freedom Fields to pollinate the crops by hand.  Shifa and Themba decide to escape but Shifa discovers a secret which she needs to protect whilst they travel on their hazardous journey.
