Children celebrating their third birthday between January 1 and
March 31 2018 should be signed up now to receive 30 hours’ funded childcare.
Places
are available from April 1 for children enrolled by March 31.
To
be eligible both parents, or the parent in a single-parent family, must earn
the equivalent of at least 16 hours a week at the national minimum wage, or
living wage.
If you are a parent, you
can check if you qualify and enrol at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.
You should act now, so once you have a registration code you can contact their
preferred childcare provider to make arrangements in good time.
If you are a library user, or even if you aren't, you have until April 1
to have your say on the best way to manage some of Staffordshire’s libraries.
Twenty of the county’s 43 libraries are
included in the process. Ideas include:
- Potentially using technology to maintain
and extend opening hours with an automated service
- Maintaining and extending
opening hours by using more volunteers
- Increasing the number of community-managed libraries
More information about the proposals, details
of remaining public meetings; and details about how to comment online or at a
library can be found at: www.staffordshire.gov.uk/connectedlibraries
£5m invested in Staffordshire roads
We know that good roads are important to local people, so we've announced we will be investing an extra £5m into improving Staffordshire's roads.
The
£5m investment will see four pothole “zapping” velocity patching machines working
alongside traditional crews to tackle more potholes.
There
will also be more work on preventative measures such as surface dressing, which
keeps roads in good condition.
We have a handy webpage that tells you where we've been fixing potholes in the last week, an you can also check out information on bigger road improvement schemes in your area.

In Staffordshire we’re focusing on supporting the
creation of higher value, better paid jobs for our residents.
One of our major employment sites i54 South
Staffordshire is home to leading global companies like Jaguar Land Rover, Moog
and Eurofins. The site was developed through a partnership between the county
council, City of Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire Councils and now has
over 2,500 people working there.
We’ve just announced plans to extend the site with
the potential to create up to 2,700 more jobs.
You can find out more about the plans here.
With the weather taking a turn for the worse lately, we always get lots of questions about our gritting operations.
Our gritting crews work day and night in bad weather to salt Staffordshire's roads and keep the county moving.
We always get a lot of questions about our gritting operations during adverse weather, so we've put together a set of frequently asked questions.
We also have a schools closure page on our website. Headteachers update this as and when they make a decision to close their school, so it's always worth checking these pages in the event of bad weather.
