The UK Corporate Games 2018, which is taking place in Staffordshire in June, has already attracted some major businesses such as Intel, Willis Towers Watson and Lloyds Banking Group, and there is still an opportunity for you to join them.

£400,000 in grant funding available in Staffordshire

Finance and Support

Businesses in Staffordshire are being urged to apply for part of £400,000 in grant funding before a deadline in December 2018.

The money comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Growth Hub is helping companies to apply for capital grants of between £1,500 to £10,000.

To be eligible for a grant, a business must have been trading for a minimum of 12 months, must be a small to medium-sized business based in Staffordshire and must fall under certain sectors.

Major new investment for new management school and business innovation hub

Keele Smart Innovation Hub

Keele University has announced plans to invest in a new multi-million pound state-of-the-art facility that houses both Keele Management School and incubated companies in a sector leading Smart Innovation Hub

The new Management School has been funded by the University and the Denise Coates Foundation.

The Smart Innovation Hub has been funded by the University, Staffordshire County Council, UK Government Growth Deal Funding and the European Regional Development Fund.

Growth Hub celebrates success in boosting businesses 

Growth Hub Success

Expert help from Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire’s Growth Hub is helping local businesses to grow. Its Business Helpline, advice services and assistance with securing business grants and loans are benefitting thousands of local firms, the latest figures show.

Since its launch in 2014, a total of 6,078 businesses have engaged with the hub and 8,732 businesses have called its Business Helpline on 0300 111 8002, while the hub has made 7,542 referrals connecting local entrepreneurs with business support schemes in both the public and private sectors.

Together, the helpline and hub have helped nearly 3,500 people to launch their own business, while expert advisers have carried out a total of 860 in-depth diagnostics for small businesses, and 1,007 local businesspeople now have on-going support from mentors.

New partnership will boost the number of local people with business skills

STAFFORDSHIRE SKILLS DEAL

A significant new partnership with a local university will boost the number of local people with the skills businesses need for the future. 

The University of Wolverhampton Staffordshire Skills Deal will give people of all ages access to qualifications and experiences, but will also focus on increasing the number of start- up businesses across the county.
