Have your say on subsidised bus travel in Staffordshire
HAVE YOUR SAY and TAKE PART IN OUR LATEST CONSULTATION
Why are we consulting with you?
A public consultation on options for bus journeys currently
subsidised by Staffordshire County Council has begun.
All bus journeys made in Staffordshire are operated by either private bus
companies or by voluntary and community initiatives, and the vast majority (more
than 90 per cent) are not subsidised by the county council and are not part of
this review.
However, the rest are subsidised by the county council. This can cost the taxpayer as much as £10 every time a passenger
boards the bus because
too few people use them or not enough income is generated to cover the costs.
With our government grant falling to zero by 2020/2021 and
the need to protect those services that we have a legal responsibility to
provide (e.g. adult social care and looking after children in care), we need to
review how the county council subsidises bus travel in Staffordshire from April
2018.
Have your say
We are asking people to have their say on four proposed options that consider a range of factors including: the amount of subsidy, number of passengers, travel for education, employment and health and access to other public transport.
Full details of the options and how to have your say can be
found online here
Alternatively, you can download and print a paper version here.
The consultation closes at midnight on Sunday 17th September 2017.
