South Staffordshire arborist represents industry at prestigious Chelsea Flower Show
Chelsea Williams, a valued member of South Staffordshire Council’s Street Scene Tree Team, was recently selected by the Arboricultural Association to represent young professionals in arboriculture at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show in London.
Chelsea said she was delighted to be invited to take part in such a significant event.
Her day at the show began with a breakfast presentation alongside other industry representatives, followed by a guided tour of some of the spectacular gardens on display.
Following the presentation, Chelsea had the opportunity to explore the show at her leisure, taking in the stunning variety of plants, flowers, and world-class garden designs the Chelsea Flower Show is renowned for.
She was accompanied by Tree Inspector and Tree Team Operational Manager, Darren Allen, who shared his pride in her achievement.
“I’m incredibly proud of Chelsea for being chosen to represent the arboricultural industry at such a prestigious event,” said Darren. “It’s a fantastic recognition of her dedication and also a positive reflection of how women are increasingly shaping a field that has traditionally been male-dominated.”

Drowning Prevention Week
Drowning Prevention Week takes place from 14th to 21st June, aiming to raise awareness of water safety and help prevent drowning incidents.
The campaign focuses on educating families and children about vital water safety skills - messages that are especially important as summer approaches, with many families spending time near the sea, rivers, lakes, and swimming pools, which are not always supervised by lifeguards.
We’re encouraging communities to get involved, start conversations about water safety, and help spread life-saving knowledge.
For practical tips on how you and your family stay safe around water, follow South Staffordshire Council’s leisure centre Facebook pages throughout the week.

Spin through the decades 🎧
Charity spinathon in memory of Will
Want to take on a meaningful challenge this June?
Join us at Codsall Leisure Centre on Friday 21st June, from 1pm - 4pm for a 3-hour spinathon, as we ride through the decades in memory of William 'Will' Payne.
In February 2025, the Pattingham community was devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Will, aged just 19, who passed away unexpectedly due to Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
Will had recently started studying Sport at university and was thriving - living life to the fullest when it was so unfairly cut short.
A Chelsea and Wolves fan, Will loved travel and had a quirky passion for tracking down the most unusual Lays crisp flavours from around the world. If you spot any, don’t forget to tag #raisethelays in his honour.
Pattingham Belles Purple netball team are fundraising for a memorial bench in honour of Will, creating a peaceful place for family and friends to sit, reflect, and remember him.
This event is not only a tribute to Will’s energy and enthusiasm for life, but also a chance to raise funds in his memory and support SUDEP awareness.

Local Plan Review
With just one week remaining, the final public hearing sessions for the Local Plan examination that originally starting on Tuesday, 27th May at 10am, are now underway.
Two further weeks of public hearing sessions for the Local Plan examination are scheduled be held from Monday, 21st July to Friday, 1st August.
All sessions are virtual and will be live streamed and available to the public via a link which will be published in advance of the sessions.
The Local Plan was submitted for independent examination by the council in December 2024 and is being scrutinised by two independent planning inspectors.
Participants at the hearings include officers of the council, representatives from professional planning groups and developers, other local authorities, residents and statutory consultees such as National Highways. They have been invited to take part by the inspectors based on the representations made in 2024 as part of the final public consultation on the Local Plan.
The Local Plan sets out the future planning framework for the district, including housing and employment sites and policies for the determination of planning applications.
