South Staffordshire businesses invited to meet the landlord event in partnership with Barclays Bank
South Staffordshire businesses are invited to attend the first of a series of Meet the Landlord drop-in sessions, hosted in partnership with Barclays Bank. The drop-in will take place on Thursday, 13th March, between 10am and 2pm at Landywood Enterprise Park.
This initiative offers a valuable opportunity for local businesses to connect directly with the council’s Commercial and Enterprise team. Business owners can engage with experts on a variety of topics, including tenancy matters, upcoming developments, and general business support.
Barclays Bank UK will be on hand to offer expert advice on a wide range of important business and financial topics. These resources are designed to help businesses enhance their operations and strengthen their financial resilience.
The drop-in session is designed to be informal, with no booking required. Participants can visit anytime during the event hours to ask questions, share concerns, or seek guidance on how to make the most of available resources. We look forward to seeing you there.

Landywood Enterprise Park - solar PV and LED lighting project
The Commercial Assets and Estates Team are proud to announce that they have recently completed a solar PV and LED lighting de-carbonisation project at their Landywood Enterprise Park site.
The project demonstrated South Staffordshire District Councils vision to be a landlord of choice, investing in a carbon reduction scheme which will result in energy efficient buildings at the site.
The project itself consisted of the installation of; 288 solar PV panels, LED lighting throughout all 36 commercial units and insulated roller shutter doors fitted to all units. A scope of decoration works to the external building were also carried out in line with the asset management plan to support the longevity of the building.
 |
|
In terms of our carbon reduction – the installation of the solar PV panels alone are projected to save 21.42 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. This would be the equivalent of planting 984 trees. |

New regulations for business waste come into force 31st March, 2025
Know your legal obligations for waste
All businesses in England must pay to dispose of their waste, using a specific business waste collection service, usually known as a trade waste service.
It is illegal for a business to use the free collections service for homes.
Council enforcement teams check compliance regularly and can issue fines or penalties, under the Waste duty of care Code of Practice 2018.
If your business employs less than 10 full time staff, the deadline for implementation will be Monday, 31st March, 2027, alhough it’s a good idea to take the opportunity to comply early – giving you one less thing to worry about! Environmental legislation also states that all businesses are responsible for the waste they produce.
To find out more about the upcoming changes we have provided a collection of where to find the best information on our website here.

Changes to Business Rates in 2025
There will be some key changes to business rates starting from Tuesday, 1st April.
The business rates multiplier will see an increase from 54.6p to 55.5p, reflecting a 1.7% increase, based on the consumer price index (CPI). For properties with a rateable value (RV) of below £51,000, the multiplier will remain at 49.9p.
In addition, the Retail Rate Relief scheme, which was originally set to end on Monday, 31st March, will be extended. However, the discount will be reduced from 75% to 40% starting on Tuesday, 1st April. This reduction applies to retail, leisure, and hospitality premises and is capped at £110,000 per business.
Typically, business rates are paid in 10 monthly instalments, but businesses experiencing difficulty in making payments may choose to spread them over 12 months. If you are having trouble paying, please contact our business rates team at taxation@sstaffs.gov.uk or call 01902 696669. They can ensure you’re receiving the discounts and reliefs you’re entitled to and make adjustments to your payment plan if necessary.
