South Staffordshire Council's leisure centres are running courses to train people to become qualified lifeguards, swimming teachers and aquatic helpers. 

Week-long and day-long courses are running throughout July and August available to people aged 14+ and 16+.

Staffordshire Police are urging the public to consider their safety this summer whilst making the Summer of '24 one to remember for the right reasons. 

Please consider the following tips to keep yourself and others safe this summer. 

Making travel plans before you set off on a night out: If you’re heading out to meet friends for a drink, make sure you plan your journey home in advance. Even one drink can affect your ability to drive safely, so book a taxi, find a designated driver or use public transport to be on the safe side.

Avoiding driving the morning after a big night out: If you have a big night out you can still be over the limit the morning after so please don’t attempt to drive and find an alternative way to travel.

Being responsible about your behaviour in public: Antisocial behaviour or violence is not acceptable so our officers will be completing high visibility patrols in high footfall areas throughout the tournament to ensure everyone can enjoy themselves safely.

Treating your family with respect, no matter the results of the game: No one should have to experience abusive or violent behaviour in the home from a partner or family member. If you have any concerns about a situation at home then please reach out for support.

We have investigators seeking out abusive online comments and, if they meet a criminal threshold, those posting these comments will be prosecuted and subsequently dealt with by the courts.
